"I approached Paul for lessons just as things were starting to go well for me as a drummer. I wanted to improve my technique and word was that Paul was the man to see. I immediately felt at ease and relaxed in Paul's company and always had a great laugh. His focus and attention to detail is amazing, and his own playing is outstanding. My playing improved leaps and bounds and directly translated to better recording sessions and gigs. It would be hard to find a more experienced, friendly, approachable teacher; dedicated to squeezing every ounce of improvement out of your own playing, whatever level you're at. Paul is the best in the biz."
Richard Beasley Gary Numan
"Rarely , during my experience as a drum teacher and performer, have I come across someone with a gift such as Paul has. He has an expansive insight and a passion for music and the understanding of time and rhythm. His deep understanding of time manipulation and structuring with the use of subdivisions, polyrhythms and beat displacement is second to none. I got to know Paul when i started as a student at Drumtech over 20 years ago and he has been a source of inspiration not only for me but probably thousands of drum students. His teaching methods were clear and concise backed up with a very high level of technical execution. It was always a joy to be taught by Paul - not only for his teaching skills but also because of his sense of humour, which would add a lot of fun to the learning process. He is a great musician and very adaptable to many genres - an all round good guy with a huge talent."
Aicha Djidjelli Craig David, Fakeband
"Paul is an incredible educator, communicator and player. His teaching style is methodical and clear and he will get you results. From technique to rudiments, independence and feel, Paul will improve your skills and take you to the next level. Paul has had a huge impact over my drumming abilities and has given me the skills to be able to execute almost anything I wish to play. I would highly recommend Paul to anyone wishing to better themselves on the drum kit."

"During my wonderful days studying in London, I received the greatest drum tuition from Paul. He would always want to get the best out of me – always offering positive, honest and friendly advice. Paul also has a great sense of humour, which made the lessons even more fun! Since those lessons, I have enjoyed a successful 20 year professional career to date and now, as a drum teacher myself, I always like to think I can pass on the good vibes in the same way that Paul passed them on to me. Big up :)"
Luke Bullen KT Tunstall, Billy Bragg
"I started travelling to London from Norwich over 20 years ago to further my studying of the drums and was fortunate to be taught by Paul. Not only were his teaching skills exemplary, he also built my confidence to make the move to London and study full-time. Paul taught me regularly over the next three years and he had a substantial influence over my approach to my instrument and this has helped me to be lucky enough to have travelled the world and make a living from my playing ever since. Thanks Paul!"
Tom Meadows Duffy, Kylie Minogue
"I met Paul at a time when I had no idea whether or not I could actually play drums professionally. Unlike many others, he takes his responsibility as a teacher and a player very seriously and managed to instil in me a sense of pride and professionalism. Without him, I'd still be swimming in a sea of uncertainty and I'll always be grateful for what he taught me, both as a person and a musician. His depth of knowledge is second to none and his skills put him in rarified air on the world stage. I can't recommend him enough, if you get a chance to see him either as a student or audience member, take it… you'll be glad you did."
Laura Fares Sam Sparro, Ricky Martin
"I studied with Paul for 3 years and he was very influential on the way I play now. His passion and knowledge of the instrument and exceptional technique have always been inspirational. He's a top guy!"
Mark Heaney Seahorses, Gang Of Four
"Paul is a wonderful teacher and he helped me greatly with all aspects of my playing. His teaching material is concise and delivered in a way that makes his concepts easy to understand. Paul covered all aspects of drumming with me - from technique to styles and it was a lot of fun. I would highly recommend studying with Paul - a great player and teacher and a really lovely person to be around."
Bid Beresford Leftfield
"I studied with Paul in London and without question he was and still is one of the most technically aware and fluid teachers around. His understanding and overall ability, whether it be reading, co-ordination or technical control, is immense. Not only does he teach but in conversation with the Geordie, you realise his genuine love, passion and enthusiasm for the drums, always wanting to learn more himself and openly sharing this knowledge to those willing to learn. Roll on Mr Elliott! X"
Jola Adam Ant
"Paul Elliott! I was a student of Paul's when I was studying at university for a degree in music. Watching Paul play was always a treat; he's a fabulous drummer, but what struck me and set Paul apart from other teachers, was the humour that he injected into his lessons. That is a skill that few teachers have. It not only made Paul's lessons really fun to take part in but also made pupils feel at ease. Playing under the critical eye of your teacher and in front of a class full of students can be nerve wracking yet there was never any tension in Paul's classes. I always felt relaxed. Paul was never the type of teacher to blind you with technique or bore you senseless with what a great player he is. The intimidation of under achieving as a drummer was never there, though he had a realistic approach which only served to make me more aware that becoming a good musician involves a lot of hard work. Yes, we were always aware of his skills, but he was very encouraging and techniques were broken down and examined and explained, in order that we could achieve what we were all there for: to learn!"
Mick Avory The Kinks
"Paul really helped me with my wrist technique, which I’d been struggling with. He also broadened my knowledge on Latin and linear drumming which I found interesting and useful in my general playing. I found him really easy going and friendly, with a great sense of humour."
Ammar Al-Chalabi Professor of Neurology and Complex Disease Genetics, King’s College London, Consultant Neurologist, King’s College Hospital, and Drummer
"I had many years of wonderful drum lessons with Paul, who is now a good friend. As a neurologist specializing in the motor system, I know that Paul’s thorough knowledge and understanding of physiology, biomechanics, learning principles and effective practice methods combine with his amazing drumming skills to make him a world leader in this field and an exceptional teacher. If you are looking to develop a musical, relaxed and fluid drumming technique based on sound physiological principles - and I recommend that you should be - then you can do no better than with Paul."
Jason Cooper The Cure, David Bowie
"I first met Paul in the early 90’s and his teaching helped me on my way to becoming a successful musician. His easy-going attitude combined with his full knowledge of drumming and the music business was invaluable to me."
Lisa Tring Jill Jackson, Heather Peace
"Paul's understanding of rhythm, time and technique is in a class of it's own. Nearly fifteen years since being a student of Paul's, I am still practicing and realising his concepts and will continue to do so for many years to come. He has passed on his passion for achieving great sound and feel through technique and has inspired me and a generation of great drummers to strive for perfection and a deeper understanding of our instrument. Paul is a true innovator - as a player and as an educator. I feel privileged to have had the best drum education there is."
Jane Gregory Alexander Technique Practitioner and Trainer, ICMP
"As an Alexander Technique teacher specialising in working with modern musicians, I first worked with Paul some years ago and was immediately struck by his good body use at the kit. One of his great strengths as a drum teacher is his ability to blend good body use with his teaching. He is an amazing technician in his own right and, in my opinion, this combination is a unique and powerful approach for drum students."
